Get Your Septic System Ready for Summer

Imagine this: a summer where you never have to worry about your septic system – NOT ONE TIME!

Here are the 5 things you can do:

  1. Pump your tank to give your drain field a break and help to prepare your system for the heavier water usage of the warmer months.
  2. Avoid driving over your drain field or parking heavy equipment or vehicles on it to prevent either soil compaction or crushing of your septic system.
  3. Also avoid planting landscaping or putting down mulch near your septic tank as it may clog or contaminate your system. Plant any trees 25 or more feet away as tree roots can destroy a drain field and crack a septic tank.
  4. Conserve water and avoid overloading the system.
Summer usage tends to be higher because of sprinklers, frequent showers, guests, and kiddie pools. Try to cut down on water consumption wherever you can and spread out heavy usage such as showers and multiple loads of laundry over a longer time period.
  5. Get a professional inspection by RenewSource.
